Spring Hijaab Accessories Review!

Assalam-o-Alaikum!!!! :)

1st of all- Pakistan plays on Wednesday against India in ICC World Cup SemiFinal!!! GOOO PAKISTAN!!! :D

So...Hijaab accessories. Until last summer, i wore my scarf one way and that was it. However, last summer I discovered youtube video tutorials!!! :) Since then i've been interested in ways to add variety to my hijaab style. Over the winter I bought a knit hat, which turned out quite well :) <-

I've bought two more things recently from ForLove21- my new favorite store!!! :) I loooove it! it's affordable, beautiful, and has cool stuff.

So I bought two more hijaab accessories...a necklace and headband.

I'll start with the necklace. :) I normally don't wear necklaces (long or short) with hijaab because...I don't know. :P It doesn't really fit my style at all. But this is one that is REALLY pretty.

I really like wearing cardigans, and this has that very fancy, flowy cardigan look. It's made of 3 levels of beads and a big flower at the right.

Not a complete picture, but see how it works well with the cardigan? Another awesome hijab-friendly thing about this is that the flower is a PIN!! :D So you can pin down your hijab to your cardigan and keep your necklace from moving!!!

I suppose you can remove the flower too...but why would you do that?? :P I haven't worn this much, so I can't say how wearable it is- yet. Because it is made of a lot of NET, i'm scared it'll easily rip...so i'll wear it carefully. One of the cool things about this is that the biggest set of beads is covered with net!

Yes, I'm very amused :D This cost $8.80...which is quite reasonable for such an intricate necklace.

Next up- headband!!!

I have no idea why this has two strands....that is a con, but it'll get to that later. :)
I have worn this a couple times now, so this is a proper review! I actually go the idea of this from Amenakin on youtube, the person i most watched last summer. So I've been looking for a proper headband and i saw one at Target but I didn't buy it. This is flower is so pretty though! :)

If you wear a wrap scarf, you can easily conceal the strands by putting this on first, then draping the long part of the scarf over this. Then you can pin it up so it completely covers it. :)

It was hard to get a picture of this without my face...so that's like the best i can do :P. hehe.

Can you see the blue pin on the other side of the flower? I used two pins on either side to hide the strands.
So...the con!! The only annoying thing about this is that it can get a little tight. A solution for this is to wear only one strand and let the other just....sit there.  I ended up wearing both strands and I got used to it...

This can be used for other things too!! :) I had hippie day at my school a week ago...and my sister gave me the idea to turn this sideways!!

:) How did people dress up like this in the 60s? it was fun for a day though :D

Blog Wordle

Have you ever used Wordle.net?
It's the website that produces all the cool little text things. I'll show you in a second. :)

So I did one by just putting in my blog URL...the words that came up are interesting :)

Wordle.net has plenty of variations and cool colors/fonts/etc....but no saving option :( so you have to screenshot it which is why there is "print..." button on the side.

Anyhow, on here the bigger the word is the more it's used. I think...so HELLO! is pretty obvious :) hehe. SAT? Okay i'm not so sure about this used often thing...review...FAILED!:) hehe NaBloPoMo..
My favorite on here: hehe :D yes that's overused.

This is a part nailpolish review, part picture sharing, and part just having fun :P hehe.

So I LOVE to put nailpolish on! I have forgotten to the last couple months so I went super crazy this time and used four colors!!! hehehe :D

Green Blue Pink and Purple!!! :)

On the left side is Rimmel London 60 Second 830 Camouflage (green) and 819 Green with Envy (blue). On the right side is Sally Hansen HD nail color 08 Hi-Res (Pink) and Revoln 762 Plum Attraction (Purple).

I love the green and blue one because it's metallic and unique. :) I bought it last year from Ulta for buy one, get one half off, and it only cost about $4 per bottle normally. And putting it on is so nice! Apparently it has a "pro-cision brush" which makes it so precise and easy to put on. :) It took a little while to dry (not 60 seconds anyhow :)) but it's really pretty!

Don't ask my why the blue one is called Green with Envy :)

The pink and purple is cool, not my favorite though. Actually the pink one is really pretty but really expensive- about $8.50- the normal OPI price. My sister still regrets wasting money on it but i find it quite pretty :). The purple is nice but not really a gorgeous color. It's too dark :P hehe...

I've been busy with school, finals, etc. :)


Today I took the SAT! (Scholastic Aptitude Test). It wasn't that hard...but I wasn't really taking it for accuracy. Just for practice...but the vocab was kindda hard. :) Maybe I should take etymology before my next SAT?


I will write a couple review of some things I've been using...maybe :P Slippers, eyeliner (which I've used twice), and...something else.... which i can't remember. hehe. I might do some drama reviews as well, like Mein Abdul Qadir Houn and Qaid-e-Tanhai. We'll see if nothing comes up that's what i'll do. :D


 My new classes this semester include 3D-art and careers. 3D-art is boring! :( I thought it would be a glimpse of the 3D-art classes, like jewelry, ceramics, and photography. But instead, it's like carving, some ugly mobiles :P, and a mask. Me no like. But i want to fit ceramics into my schedule in the next 3 years :P


So my Career Planning & Success (graduation requirement) teacher is well known throughout the school for being racist and picks on people. I wouldn't call him racist at all (2 classes with him so far :D) but he certainly did PICK on everyone. And me. 5 minutes into class. See, my name (Maria) is pronounced Mer-ia in English. (Spanish it's María). So in the beginning of every class I correct the teacher once, and if they feel like pronouncing it right they do, or else I let them call me Mariah, Meria, or a weird pronunciation. :P (My classmates are always like, Maria why don't you correct them again! lol) Anyhoo, so i corrected the Careers teacher once. He goes, "Well, being a 50-year old white American, I'm probably gonna read that as 'Meria'"...but I might think otherwise by your clothing, because you are the only one wearing that. What is it called?" And I replied, "Hijab". Well after that we got into a whole discussion about Islam, compared to other religion, random info about Muslims (Would you marry a person not Muslim? Reply: I wouldn't...because if i believe something I would want to adhere to it. Wouldn't a Christian marry a Christian?(<- that was a little stereotyping. But i think he was expecting me to say my parents won't let me, which they wouldn't, but I wouldn't personally. When I was discussing Christianity and how WE BELIVE that the Bible was lost throughout time which is why we don't believe in it, he was like, "So you believe in whatever you want?-- that was kindda insulting. But i was like, "well...we have our own book". What else? Hm...he asked me why i wore hijab...he wanted to know more than religion...so i said for modesty. It's like wearing clothes. He repeated it. :P He's like, so you wear jeans? And I'm like, "Yep...as long as it covers. (There's more, but I wasn't in the mood of being detailed).He also said (response to Hijab goes along with me not dating), "So is your marriage already arranged?" I'm like..."nooo....." "are your parents just gonna choose for you?" "no...I'll have a lot of choice." "How will you find someone?" "You'll know people, (dont remember what i said but it was brief :P)
So basically, it was pretty weird. The next class I came in and he had a powerpoint that defined hijab (in a very nice way) and had a picture of a hijbai. He's like, "is that right?" and i'm like, "Yep, that's an arabic style." And i briefly explained to him that there are different styles all over the world like there are in clothes. And that I can get my scarfves from Walmart and Kohls. :D I hope I made a good impression, because a pretty large class was listening to me. :)


After me, this teacher told a girl that she probably couldn't become an Anesthesiologist. (Half of my year wants to be one...seriously? There's like 1 per hospital!) If she wasn't in the top 10 of her class, didn't have all A's, good volunteering/clubs/etc, and was readying to spend 15 years in college (which she replied to: but it gives a lot of money-- :S) So when I did my formal introduction the next class, I had this whole backup plan to tell him. (Major in BioChemistry so that if it doesn't work out i can go into Chemistry, Pharmacy, etc) Which he's like, "why do you think you won't get into Med School?" Well thank you for being complete opposite for me. :P hehe. But he was super nice the 2nd day. He kept referencing to me about doctors, telling me about the Army Medical program and what not. (Me no want to be in Army. But he told me the 4 years you must 'serve' in the army, I would be in Med School. So i would never have to 'serve'! That's cool) See, I'm  REALLY starting to feel that teachers check our grades/comments before we go to there class. He must know my grades to not oppose my doctor dreams :P hehe.


Ps. I have a more direct specialization in mind now- ObGyn :)

Beautiful

So today I found a new blog (woohoo!) and it's called Equal But Distinct...I must say I think it's ah-mazing (hehe) and Aminah is a fantastic writer.

Among that...I was reading my old posts (because I was bored & none of my favorite blogs had updated...this is before I founded EBD^) and I found my failed attempt to do NaBloPoMo daily writing challenge that was titled "Beautiful".

Then the other day I was on Twitter (trust me it's not all "I just woke up" "I just ate pie" "I am so happy" <- that's more like facebook :P) and I found out about Bridalplasty- a show on E!. I read episode-picture reviews and was thoroughly DISGUSTED! (like everyone else who has seen this show- I think the reason it's so silly is why it's on air) If you haven't seen/heard about it, it's basically this: to-be brides compete to get plastic surgeries so they look "perfect" on their wedding. Every episode somebody gets voted off and the host says, "Your wedding will go on but it won't be perfect" :O that's the worst thing ever!!!! (the words, not the "wedding not being perfect") So all in all, it's a pretty silly show. Already, they've had 2 nose jobs and a something-I-won't-mention-on-my-blog done... :(


So the reason I'm just listing off my recent discoveries is because EBD/Aminah's blog inspired me to write about some serious stuff that's been crossing my mind recently, and the beautiful posts reminded me about one of those things. 

Our Distorted Image of Beauty

My opinion is- every women is pretty.

If you've seen the Dove self-esteem ad ^, you know the start of it. Photoshopped models are ruining everyone's perception of beauty.

BARBIE!

 Then me and my sis were discussing yesterday how Barbie, the beloved childhood doll, has horrible proportions! My sister told me that research was done that if Barbie was a real human, she would die in seconds because the weight of her body would be uneven, her body couldn't support itself...something or another but the straightforward thing is: she's horribly messed up as far as "beauty" goes.

Another comparison of barbie proportions- see how the most right woman looks extremely...unproportional? 

Allah Tallah made each of us- perfect. :) We are alive and that's beauty within it self. Our body and it's functions and our brains- everything is amazing! The only problem is- the society keeps selling this fake beauty...
If we were all 'beautiful' the way shown on media, than we'd loose the precious uniqueness we have. Isn't is so amazing that we all are so different but can live in similar ways?
Why do we strive to have our noses straight, our eyebrows arched, ourselves all small? What's wrong leaving things natural?


If you've seen Geo's new morning show (Utho Jago Pakistan with Shaista Wahidi) you've probably come across her skin segment every Monday where she has so far done 2 botox procedures, 2 neck-line removal procedures, and 2 rejuvenating hand skin procedures. This is what me and my sister deduced after all this SURGICAL PROCEDURE craze
*everyone is beautiful (my sister agrees now :)
*a procedure to help dry hands, sweaty palms, etc. is OKAY. It's like taking medicine for being sick---which is said to be okay in Islam (from what i've been told by my parents).
*a procedure to change the way you look is WRONG WRONG WRONG! Allah Talla made you, you! because that's the best way you look. Those small things you find errors are part of your personality and your perfection- your actually ruining yourself by trying to make yourself "perfect". Have you seen some people who got plastic surgery done? How could you harm yourself like that?
